Good chicken feed is essential to keep your chickens healthy and growing. That's why Ducatillon offers in its catalogue food for hens but also for ducks, chicks, quails, geese as well as for game birds like partridges and pheasants.

Chicken feed: the importance of good nutrition

Whatever your farm, good nutrition is essential for the proper development of the animals. To select the right feed, it is necessary to take into account the needs of the species. Here we offer specially prepared chicken and game feeds that provide the nutritional requirements of your birds to maintain their good health. Good nutrition is essential for the well-being of your poultry. It ensures that your hens receive a sufficient supply of minerals and vitamins, which promotes both their growth and the quality of their eggs.

What does a hen eat?

First of all, it is important to remember that a hen feeds continuously. It is therefore important to provide sufficient quantities of chicken feed in the feeder to fully satisfy its nutritional needs. Of course, in addition to food, good hydration is also important. This is an animal that drinks a lot: almost twice as much as it eats.

As far as chicken food is concerned, the vast majority of it should be made up of cereals. A well-balanced ration for your poultry should therefore include :

  • - Cereals such as wheat, rye, oats…
  • - Maize: but be careful to mix it with other feeds as maize alone will make your poultry fat.
  • - Pulses: peas, lentils, soya, etc. For a sufficient supply of proteins essential for growth and laying.

Note, however, that chicken feed is not limited to cereals. Your chickens need a varied diet! In addition to this, they will also eat grass, insects, vegetable peelings and your kitchen waste (peelings, eggshells, cheese crusts, bread, etc.).

Feed for laying hens

If you keep laying hens, you need to make sure you feed them well because the food they eat affects the quality of the eggs they lay. You need to feed them food rich in minerals, vitamins and trace elements to ensure that the eggs are strong enough. We have specific mixes for laying hens in our catalogue.

How to feed a hen?

In addition to the nutritional value, there are a few things to keep in mind when feeding your chickens. Firstly, it is recommended that chicken feed is served in a suitable feeder and, if possible, one that is slightly suspended to prevent it from tipping over. Serving food on a concrete floor should be avoided to prevent beak bumps, and it also encourages the ingestion of bacteria. It is also important to check that the food left in the feeder is not out of date. Finally, as far as the frequency of meals is concerned, there are two very important ones: in the morning when you leave the henhouse and in the evening before you return.

At Ducatillon, you will find everything you need for the development of your chickens, ducks, geese, chicks or quails. We propose food products rich in minerals and vitamins perfectly adapted to your poultry and game breeding.
