Binoculars and spotting scopes
Hunting can take a lot of patience and skill, but you won't see much action without good visibility in the field. Hunting binoculars are very useful in this context. But not all binoculars are specifically designed for hunting. That is why it is essential that you have the right pair for this activity. Any type of hunting requires the use of good binoculars. Some would say that they are just as essential as a hunter's rifle. As a hunter, you need binoculars to observe your surroundings and to get closer to the game more easily. At Ducatillon we offer a range of binoculars and spotting scopes to suit your needs.
How to choose the right pair of hunting binoculars?
Magnification and field of view
Most hunters and binocular users in general already know that higher magnification does not always mean a good purchase. Higher magnification makes the image more difficult to stabilise. When holding high magnification binoculars, the slightest movement results in a shaky image. Also, higher magnification means your field of view will be much narrower.
A smaller field of view means that it will be more difficult to spot wildlife in front of you, especially fast-moving animals. A wider field of view, on the other hand, will allow you to explore larger areas of land.
The best magnification should take into account the terrain where you hunt most. If you like to hunt in the woods, choose a pair of binoculars that have a lower magnification. This will give you a much wider field of view, no matter which brand or model you choose. An 8x magnification would be ideal in this case.
If you often hunt in large areas or observe at greater distances, then you can opt for a higher magnification. This will allow you to spot your target from further away and in more detail. The 10x magnification is a very popular choice in this case. The majority of hunters find that 8x or 10x magnification best suits their needs.
The best lens size
Some of the best hunting times are in the early morning hours or late evening. So your binoculars need to be able to gather enough light and make the image as clear as possible.
With larger lenses, the binoculars will be able to gather more light in darker environments. Of course, other elements, such as the quality of the lenses, determine the ability of the binoculars to transfer light to your eyes.
The disadvantage of large lenses is that they are heavier and more expensive. You should therefore decide whether you want large, medium or small lenses, depending on your preferences.
The majority of standard sized binoculars have a lens diameter of 42 mm. Smaller ones usually have a diameter of between 20 and 32 mm. This represents a good balance between good magnification, good light capture and easy to handle binoculars.
Waterproof and fogproof binoculars
When you're out in the field, no matter how long you're out there, you'll encounter all sorts of different weather conditions. So it's best to opt for waterproof and fogproof binoculars. Waterproof binoculars protect against moisture, dust and other foreign objects. In addition, fog-proof binoculars prevent fogging up inside the binoculars, which can be caused by temperature fluctuations. We recommend that you buy binoculars with rubber armouring. They offer a better grip and protection when you are likely to drop them.
Our binoculars and spotting scopes for hunting
We have different models to suit your needs. We offer classic binoculars with central focusing or anti-reflection coating which allows optimal vision. More technical binoculars also allow you to take photos and videos. Both types of hunting binoculars are usually equipped with a harness or neck strap to avoid dropping and damaging your equipment.
Our spotting scopes are compact single vision scopes that fit easily into a pocket. One model has night vision and can take photos and videos.
The magnification of these optical devices for hunting can be up to ten. Some have a ten-year guarantee. Most are also waterproof so they can be used anywhere without difficulty.
